The Evaluation Community of India (ECOI) in collaboration with Shri Guru Govind Singh College of Commerce, launched a basic course in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for the undergraduate students.
This is the first course of its kind in any college in India. The course aims at sensitization of students in order to develop an evaluation culture in the country. It was inaugurated on 24 September 2020 by Mr Yogesh Suri, Senior Advisor, NITI Aayog, Government of India, with Marco Segone as guest of honor.
Dr Rekha Sharma, a representative from the college, as well as ECOI core group- and other members, combined efforts to initiate this course. There were about 160 participants during the inauguration event.
The course is currently being attended by some 130 students.
Dr Suri pointed towards various schemes and programmes launched by the Government of India in the development sector that will require monitoring and evaluation to make these schemes and programmes a success.
He also emphasized the importance of the course for students. Marco Segone referred to the issues of Equality and Equity and the principles of ‘No One left Behind’. He mentioned that this is possible with partnerships and by working together. He highlighted the importance of the M&E course for students opting for good careers in national and international organisations.
